As we approach GENBAND Day, I wanted to highlight yet another of the many special stories that embody the true spirit of GENBAND.  Last week I told you about Ken Edwards, an employee based in our Raleigh, NC office, and his amazing story of giving back on GENBAND Day.  GENBAND corporate headquarters employee Clayton Tewksbury’s story is just as heart-warming and powerful.

Clayton’s two children, who are now 9 and five years old, were both afflicted by the same serious, rare condition known as Pierre Robin Syndrome as infants.  The condition, which affects the development of the jaw and soft pallet while in the womb, required both infants to endure several complicated surgeries.  To compound things, in addition to Pierre Robin Syndrome, Clayton’s son was also detected with a heart condition that required open heart surgery.

Clayton and his wife were fortunate to have the outstanding staff of Children’s Medical Center to care for both of their children.  Because of their efforts and amazing facilities both children are now doing well. Both Clayton’s son and daughter currently have a plastic surgeon and cardiologist through the Children’s Medical Center facilities and both will likely require a few additional surgeries as they grow.  Clayton says that knowing this will take place within the network of the Children’s Medical Center makes things a lot less frightening for his entire family.

For GENBAND Day Clayton and his entire family will be volunteering their time at the Children’s Medical Center, working alongside other GENBAND employees assembling care packages for families in the Intensive Care Unit.  Again, I cannot say how proud I am to be part of such an awesome team of courageous and generous individuals! Clayton, thank you for sharing your story with me and the rest of the GENBAND team.  You and your family are a true inspiration to us all!
